Members of Bandar Bandhuvulu, a Facebook group, on Sunday sweat out for a few hours at the Manginapudi beach, turning it into visitors’ friendly spot. At least two dozens of members of the group initially turned out to the beach and collected garbage and plastic waste materials.

The beach clean drive was part of the Swachh Bharat programme. Drawing inspiring from the group’s initiation, several visitors and school students joined them in cleaning the beach.

Carrying bags and broomstick in their hands, many collected plastic waste materials, while a few segregated disposable wastes, which were to be treated later. A portion of the beach, one of the safest in Krishna district for which visitors from across the district turn out round the year, wore a tidy look on Sunday following the drive.

The group also appealed to the students of corporate colleges who planned to spend the day on the beach to join them to keep the beach clean by sparing a few hours. Obliging the appeal from the group, dozens of students dedicated their devoted time for the clean drive.

Eco-friendly concept

The initiative was the first of its kind to take up clean drive on the Manginapudi beach by any section of people from civil society.

People from different professional and academic background came together on the social network group and completed first phase of the drive, dedicated for most-sought tourism spot in Krishna district – Manginapudi beach. “Swachh Bharat inspired us to take up the beach clean drive activity. However, visitors response gave us additional energy to continue the drive in the scorching heat”, said Bandar Bandhuvulu group members.
