Farmers to hold ‘Chalo Vijayawada’

February 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Farmers’ associations will organise ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ on February 6, demanding that the government waive off the loans taken by small and marginal ryots in the State.

Andhra Pradesh Koulu Rythu Sangham State assistant secretary P. Jamalaiah and A.P. Rythu Sangham district president Y. Kesava Rao on Sunday said that ahead of the general elections, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had promised that he would waive off the loans as per scale of finance, if voted to power. “Mr. Naidu has forgotten his promise soon after assuming office,” they said.

The implementation of GO 174 for debt redemption is marred by many practical problems. The loans taken by the RMG JLG groups have not been waived off so far. Majority of farmers in the district falls under tenant, small and marginal category. The fruit of debt redemption never reached them,” they said, adding that these issues would be highlighted during the dharna.
