Minister for Social Welfare Ravela Kishore Babu has said that the State government was committed to improve the infrastructure at social welfare residential schools and colleges and empower students hailing from weaker sections.

He was addressing a meeting after inaugurating a social welfare residential complex constructed at a cost of Rs.9.65 crore on 6.38 acres at this village. The complex is a symbol of affirmative action of the State Government in the village which witnessed one of the bloodiest massacres of dalits in the recent times.

Even though the school was sanctioned in 1992 as part of the package announced by the Centre, it had continued to function from a movie hall initially and later shifted to a community hall at Ambedkar Nagar.

Proposals to construct a residential complex were moved by the previous state governments and finally the dream of students of this village and neighbouring mandals had come true. The school has modern classrooms, hostels, dining facilities, staff quarters, all in one complex.

The Minister said that construction of permanent school buildings in SW residential institutions was under way with the help of funding from NABARD (RIDF). The Social Welfare ministry had identified that 1,186 dormitories would be needed in SW residential schools and 399 laboratories would be required.
