Expressing displeasure over the delay in completion of the flyover works near Kanaka Durga temple, District Collector B. Lakshmikantham on Sunday directed the project contractor to expedite works and ensure its early completion.

Mr. Lakshmikantham inspected the ongoing works with a team of officials. He said the project which was supposed to be ready by now was getting delayed and this in turn, was inconveniencing people using that route as the road had been closed to facilitate the construction works. He asked the officials with him to keep him informed about the day-to-day progress of the flyover works.

He then headed to the works taken up for construction of a flyover at Benz Circle and expressed satisfaction over the pace of works.

He said care should be taken to ensure that there was no traffic problem due to the ongoing works.

Surprise visit to hostel

The Collector paid a surprise visit to a BC welfare girls’ hostel at Gunadala and interacted with the inmates about the available facilities.

Based on the inmates’ plea, he asked officials concerned to arrange for two fans immediately.

He then asked the hostel warden Rajani Kumari if haemoglobin tests were being conducted for the girls at regular intervals and directed officials of the Medical and Health Department to ensure the same.

Upset with the hostel welfare officer M. Radha for allowing use of stale oil for breakfast items, he directed the officials concerned to initiate action against her.

He said 1,414 candidates had appeared for the screening test organised to appoint Assistant Statistical Officers, by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) held at various exam centres in city amidst tight security.

The Collector visited the exam centres at P.B. Siddhartha Arts College and Maris Stella College. He said the answer sheets would be shifted to the APPSC office amidst tight security.
