An essay writing competition will be conduct ed on the theme of Himsa (violence) and Ahimsa (non-violence) for schoolchildren on Gandhi Hill from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Sunday.
Animal rights activists and chairman of Jeevakarunya Sangham M.Venkateswarlu said the contest was being organised as part of the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO) ‘Living Free Gandhigiri’ campaign. The idea of the essay writing competition was to sensitise children to the issue of cruelty to animals. Seven schools have given their consent to participate in the contest.
Students from LPTC Gujarati High School, S.V.K. High School, Srivani Public School, Citizen’s High School, K.C. Public School, GNRM High School will take part, Mr. Venkateswarlu said. Officials, elected representatives and animal rights activists would also participate in the campaign, he said.
