Divisional Railway Manager Anurag on Thursday said that works for the installation of eight escalators in three stations (Vijayawada, Nellore and Tenali) and 20 lifts in eight stations (Vijayawada, Gudur, Nellore, Tenali, Bhimavaram Town, Samalkot, Kakinada Town and Chirala) were under progress and they would be put to public use in the current year.
He was speaking at the 115th Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) meeting of the division in which S. Ramesh Babu, Divisional Commercial Manager (co-ordination) and Secretary of DRUCC and other officers were present.
“We will be adding 11 more ATMs in 10 stations in addition to the existing 20 ATMs in 12 stations,” he added.
Mr. Anurag, who presided over the meeting, elaborated on the progress made by division during the period of April - July 2011.
“Vijayawada Division has achieved 22.13 per cent growth over the last year and the gross earnings have recorded as Rs.701.64 crore during the four month period of the current financial year. The passenger segment posted Rs.162 crore with a growth of 7.99 per cent and freight segment posted Rs. 508.33 crore with a growth of 28.84 per cent”.
New trains sought
The members expressed their happiness over the progress made by the division and sought introduction of new trains to various destinations from division, halts for super-fast and express trains and other passenger amenities at various railway stations of Vijayawada Division.
