The two-day exercise of enumeration of losses suffered by people during the floods in the Krishna in the city concluded on Thursday. The Revenue officials began compiling the data and are likely to complete the exercise by Friday.
As many as 90 teams have compiled the data, while 8 teams are yet to complete the process. Officials said that about 11,000 households from Bhavanipuram to Yanamalakuduru suffered losses. Of these, about 10,000 houses were found to be inundated, and the remaining households were either partially or fully damaged. These assessments include the tenants also. The exact number would be known once the remaining eight teams submit their reports and a comprehensive data is prepared on Friday. The distribution of flood relief is likely to be completed by Monday, officials said.
The teams visited Krishnalanka, Kodandaramalayam ghat, Ranadive Nagar, Ramalingeswara Nagar, Ranigarithota, Bhavanipuram, Punnami hotel and Bhupesh Gutpa Nagar. Officials initially estimated that 15,000 to 16,000 families would have suffered the losses. Ramalingeswara Nagar, Chalasani Nagar, Ranadive Nagar, Krishnalanka and Bhavnipuram were some of the localities that incurred major losses and damage.
The preliminary estimates point out the houses that were damaged would be more than 8,000. As many as 7,200 houses would have been damaged partially and 1,000 houses severely in the city. The actual damages and losses would be known once the teams submit their reports.
The government would provide a relief of Rs. 8,000 for houses fully damaged, Rs. 7,000 for severely damaged, and Rs. 3,000 for houses inundated for more than 24 hours. These compensation would be given to Below Poverty Line families only. Other relief like rice and kerosene would be given to tenants also. The government would give 20 kg rice and 5 litres of kerosene to identified flood victims, officials say.
‘Expedite process’
Meanwhile, CPI (M) city secretary R. Raghu demanded that the officials speed up the process. He also wanted the government to extend the flood relief to the tenants as well, as most of the victims were migrants from other places.
The people were facing hardships as they were not aware of the enumeration rules, he said, adding that the flood compensation should be paid immediately.
