The Children's Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at various schools and at Swaraj Maidan here on Monday. The schools organised competitions in sports, elocution, essay writing and other events, and handed over prizes to the winners.
The Forum for Child Rights organised the Children's Day festival at Swaraj Maidan as part of its ‘Childline Se Dosti'. The street children released colourful balloons to mark the occasion. They danced to the tunes of music, and sang songs of their choice.
The Forum kicked off a campaign Childline through publicity rickshaws.
Mimicry artiste Sylvester enthralled the children with his mimicry. DCP M. Ravindranath Babu, Sub Collector S. Venkat Rao and others were present.
At Nalanda Vidya Niketan, a gala of cultural programmes, including songs, dances and skits, were performed by the teachers to entertain the students. The school organised the celebrations at its branches at Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road, Benz Circle.
A smart kids show was organised for children between 2 to 6 years.
The Nalanda Degree College students arranged meals to students of an orphanage Chiguru.
At Swarna Bharathi Educational Academy, Garaga nritya, janapadalu, Bangda dance, pop dance attracted the students.
N.ST. Mathew's Public School principal Pratap Reddy and others asked the students to have discipline.
The students should inculcate the habit of helping others, he said.
The week-long Children's Day celebrations concluded at MK Gandhi Concept School, and Exhibition Society secretary G. V. Rama Rao handed over prizes to winners. At Mahita Public School, the competitions were held in kabbadi, throw ball, kho-kho etc.
A treasure hunt was also organised to the students. A cookery competition in dishes made out of carrot was conducted to parents of students.
The students of VP Siddhatha Public School donated food items and toiletries worth of Rs. 1.01 lakh to inmates of Vijaya Mary School for Blind on the occasion of children's day. Kindergarten children of Chigurpati Sri Krishnaveni Talent School put up a fabulous show of fancy dresses.
Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu inaugurated a residential vocational training institute building in Navjeevan Bala Bhavan.
