An energy park, first of its kind in the State, will come up at Kanuru near here shortly. The park is aimed at creating awareness about the wind energy among the school and college children. The park will also have a centre to test the lighting and heating equipment/gadgets.
The park is estimated to cost Rs. 5 crore, and will come up on the lines of energy park located at Raipur in Chattisgarh. The park will adhere to Energy Conservation Building Code. The funds are expected from Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Bureau of Energy Efficiency. The proposal is pending formal clearance from Board of the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of AP (NREDCAP). The Vijayawada Guntur Tenali Mangalagiri Urban Development Authority (VGTMUDA), however, has given possession of one acre land to the NREDCAP. The UDA asked the NREDCAP to develop greenery around the building that houses the live models and testing centre, UDA sources say.
NREDCAP district manager Srinivas said the energy park would have live models on bio mass gasification and cogeneration projects in industries, solar water heating systems, solar cookers (Box and dish type), scheffler cookers, solar steam generating systems, solar drying/air heating systems, solar lanterns, solar hoardings, solar street lighting/garden equipment etc. As the park will have models on wind energy, the visitors can also have experience on other renewable energies, he said. The park will have testing centre wherein water heating equipments and lighting equipment would be tested on payment of requisite fee. For instance, testing of LED bulbs, a customer or agency would have to wait for three months and shell out Rs. 28,000 for a report from testing centre located at Bangalore. The centre will issue certificate on efficacy, durability and compliance of laid down standards. The market is flooded with CFL, LED bulbs. But, none knew whether they comply with national lighting code. The UV filtration, durability, withstanding capacity to voltage fluctuations, performance will be tested at the centre, he said.
