ENC to set up its arm in Amaravati

August 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:24 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

CRDA Principal Secretary Ajay Jain on Saturday said that Indian Navy officials had a discussion with the government for setting up an arm of the Eastern Naval Command in Amaravati.

Speaking at a seminar on ‘Mana Amaravati’ here, he said that the vision of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was to build Amaravari as a planned city with more space for green and water bodies. “The recent deluge in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai is because they are not planned cities. Amaravati will be spruced in such way that the farmers will get value for the land allotted to them.”

Dig at critics

He found fault with critics blaming the government for encouraging private companies from Singapore.

“The companies we are dealing with are not private ones but they are government companies. Only some shares are held by private bodies.” Mr. Jain said the new capital would be an international city with local flavour.

“This will be an investment destination for many countries.” CRDA Commissioner Cherukuri Sridhar said most of the new capital cities were ghost cities for there was no action after sunset. “Amaravati will have all the trappings of an international city, focussing on economic activities.”
