The 200 employees of the Andhra Pradesh State Co-operative Rural Irrigation Corporation (APSCRIC) working in other departments on deputation will be recalled to the corporation in a phased manner, said the recently appointed chairman Nellore Venkata Reddy.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday Mr. Venkata Reddy said he was appointed chairman of the corporation after a gap of four years. The Commissioner of Cooperation and Registrar of Cooperative Societies had been holding additional charge since May 18, 2009.
The corporation that provided irrigation facilities to lands that belong to the weaker sections had 500 employees, but 200 of them had been sent to other departments because there were no projects.
The words of the chairman indicated that the corporation was literally in a coma and it had to be revived and rejuvenated. All the 69 rigs the corporation owned have become condemned and new rigs had to be purchased. Wells were being drilled under the Indira Jala Prabha scheme by hiring private rigs.
According to the statement on the progress of borewells and tubewells under the Indira Jala Prabha Scheme orders had been already given for the drilling of 519 groundwater wells in ten districts.
With Guntur district having the maximum of 146 borewells, Vizianagaram came next with 112 borewells. The number of borewells for which orders had already been given in the other districts are Kurnool 85, Srikakulam 81, East Godavari 58, Nizamabad 21, and Ananthapur 16. Work orders had not yet been issued for drilling of wells in Visakhapatnam, Chittoor and Krishna districts, he said.
