The Andhra Pradesh Electricity Employees’ Union, popularly known as 1104 Union, has announced launching of an agitation in a phased manner asking the State Government to fill vacancies and address issues like power cuts.

Addressing a press conference in Vijayawada on Monday, Union President J. Sitarama Reddy said that the union had served strike notice on the managements of AP Transco, AP Genco and all Discoms in September. The union would launch the agitation with dharnas to carry the message to the public, he said.

Relay fast, mass dharnas in front of Vidyut Soudha and Discom offices and indefinite fast will follow. The union would launch indefinite strike on December 5 if the Government failed to respond to their demands, he said.

Listing out the demands, the union leader wanted the government to fill up the vacancies in Transco, Genco and Discoms. He also urged the government to sanction additional posts keeping in view the increase in workload.

The other demands include: abolition of contract system, and regularisation of all contract workers; allocation of staff to newly established section offices, revenue offices, MRT sections; extending the pension scheme to all employees who were recruited after the trifurcation of Electricity Board, he said.

Union general secretary R. Janardhan Reddy, advisor S. Sobhanadri, Krishna district unit leader N. Subba Rao Secretary K. Ramchandra Rao and others were present.
