East entrance of rly station to be closed

August 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:50 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Officials of South Central Railway (SCR) have reportedly decided to close the main entrance of the Vijayawada Railway Station on East side during Pushkarams.

The decision was taken at a meeting to control the rush. However, some officials argued that the ghats will face heavy rush if the East entrance at the Railway Institute is closed as devotees will rush directly to the Punnami, Padmavani and Krishnaveni ghats from the platforms.

Passengers argue that the East main entrance is convenient for many passengers who enter the station from the city. “What is the purpose of closing the main entrance when the APSRTC bus terminal and auto stands are located right in front of the east entrance? Devotees will face severe inconvenience if this entrance is closed during pushkarams,” opine some passengers.
