EAMCET: RTC offers free commute

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will offer free commute to students appearing for EAMCET on Friday (April 29).

In a statement, the RTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director N. Sambasiva Rao, said students appearing for EAMCET exam scheduled on April 29 will have to show their hall ticket to avail themselves of this facility from home to the exam centre and vice-versa.

The RTC will run special buses in all district headquarters on that day to help students reach the exam centre in time. These special buses will operate from 6 a.m. for students appearing for the test in engineering stream, which is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 11 a.m. for students writing test in the agriculture and medical courses, scheduled from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.

The buses will have stickers stuck on the top specifying its designated exam centre, he said.

Review of Pushkaram services

Mr. Sambasiva Rao, meanwhile, attended a meeting to chalk out action plan on operation of RTC buses for Krishna Pushkarams, scheduled from August 12 this year.

Presided over by Mr. Sambasiva Rao, the meeting was also attended by Vijayawada city DCP Ashok Kumar. Other officials of APSRTC including Executive Director (Operations) G. Jayrao, EDs of Vijayawada, Vizianagaram and Nellore zones and Regional Managers of Krishna, Guntur and Kurnool.

The RTC officials said they would operate buses in the routes suggested by the police department.

HUDCO award

The APSRTC has bagged the Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO) award for providing good transportation facilities to public in urban areas.

Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu presented the award to APSRTC Executive Director A. Venkateswara Rao at a programme held on the occasion of 46th foundation day of HUDCO in New Delhi.

Later in a press release, Mr. Venkateswara Rao pointed to the fact that the Corporation had also recently bagged an award at the national-level for achieving highest KMPL in fuel-efficiency.
