Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, has sanctioned a project to set up a technology park for rural women at Vignan University.
The DST sanctioned Rs. 63.15 lakh for a project to house manufacturing units for hygienic low-cost sanitary napkins, poultry breeding with new breeds, manufacturing natural fertilizers using bio-waste, training on low-cost nutritious food preparation for eradicating anaemia and establishing social networking for quality control.
The project was designed by faculty members, K. Kalpana, Ch. Hymavathi, K. Santhi Sri and P.R.S.M. Lakshmi.
The DST also issued sanction for “Fortification and Bio-fortification of Tomato Powder with Iron to curb anaemia in children and pregnant Women” designed by B. Lalitha Kumari and N. Satya Sree of Science and Humanities Department.
The primary objective of this project was to improve iron levels in tomato powder and manufacturing of tomato pills which will be provided as supplements to nutritionally deficient pregnant women and children through the primary health centres in Chebrole and Tsunduru mandals in the district.
