An eight-year old boy died when he allegedly got drowned in a pumping station located in 59th division in the city. T. Nagaraju, son of T. Subba Rao, was found missing since Tuesday afternoon. His parents lodged complaint with Nunna police after their attempts to trace him proved futile.
Subba Rao noticed that the sullage water was not being pumped out from the pumping station on Wednesday morning.
The body of Nagaraju floated when he tried to remove the dust from the pump.
Subba Rao, a resident of One Town, is working as watchman at the pumping station for last six months.
The opposition parties criticised the Corporation for negligence leading to death of Nagaraju.
The Corporation has not covered the pumping station completely.
The opposition leaders demanded that the side drains should be covered with grills or slabs to prevent these accidental deaths.
CPI city secretary K. Subba Raju and CPI(M) floor leader in VMC Ch. Babu Rao and others demanded that exgratia be paid immediatley to the deceased's family members.
