The DRM, along with Superintendent of Railway Police Ch. Syam Prasad and Senior Deputy Security Commissioner Ramesh Chandra, distributed the mike sets and torches to special police teams formed to curb crime in railway stations and on moving trains.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pradeep Kumar said safety and security were important aspects in Railways. Passengers were expecting peaceful and safe journey, he added.

He thanked the GRP and the Railway Protection Force for taking measures to step up security on and off the platforms and maintain visible policing, which would instil confidence among passengers on safety during their journey.

Mr. Syam Prasad said four armed teams had been formed to check terrorist activities and prevent entry of robbers into stations and running trains. The police teams would patrol the trains, particularly during night hours.

Bomb detection squad and sniffer dog teams would move in stations. People were requested to pass on information to the GRP or RPF if they noticed any stranger or any suspected luggage, said Mr. Prasad.
