The ‘dream girl’ of Indian cinema Hema Malini opened a local outlet of Malabar Gold and Diamonds on Mahatma Gandhi Road on Sunday.

Notwithstanding the incessant drizzle, people gathered outside the showroom waiting to catch a glimpse of the South Indian actress who made it big in the Bollywood.

When the lady did arrive, draped in a peach colour designer sari with a heavy border and waved her hand, the crowd went into raptures.

Inside the showroom, where a select few guests besides mediapersons were allowed, visitors tirelessly spoke about the multi-faceted actress, the yesteryear queen of Bollywood, who had never compromised on her convictions, both on and off screen.

Defying age, the beauty quotient of this sexagenarian has been growing by the day.

The gleam of a pair of stilettos carved in pure gold weighing a little over 1 kg and kept on display held everybody’s attention until Hema Malini walked in.

Amazing peice

The sparkle of the yellow metal drew the attention of the guests, who watched in amazement the Rs. 30-lakh piece of gold work.

Placed beside the stiletto pair were baby bibs carved from a block of gold.

Guests came in groups, admired the exquisite patterns of gold, and walked away wondering which gold fetish soul would carry it home.

On display at the showroom are Ethnix – hand crafted designer jewellery, Era – uncut diamond jewellery, Divine – Indian heritage jewellery, Starlet – specially designed for kids, and Precia – a collection of precious gems jewellery.

The collection includes stunning diamond jewellery, besides silver articles and premium national and international watch brands like Rado, Tissot, Titan, and Fastrack, among others.

“I am happy to be here as part of the inaugural of the 69 showroom of Malabar Gold and Diamonds in this city,” said Ms. Hema Malini after formally opening the showroom. As she went around looking at the jewellery patterns, people followed her whispering in soft voices about her beauty and radiance.

Informing that this was the seventh outlet in Andhra Pradesh, chairman of the Malabar Group of Companies M.P. Ahmed said the company planned to increase its worldwide retail network from the existing 69 to 200 by 2015.

He said the company had its presence in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, and the Gulf.

Brand ambassador

Junior NTR is the brand ambassador in Andhra Pradesh and the company plans to open outlets in Kakinada, Rajahmundry, Kadapa, and Nellore soon.
