Quoting from book ‘Ignited Minds’ penned by former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Director-General of Police (DGP) B. Prasada Rao has urged students of Andhra Loyola College to dream big. He was speaking at the diamond jubilee celebrations of Gogineni Hostel of the college here on Sunday.
The DGP, an alumnus of the college and the hostel, asked the students not only to dream big but also pursue the dream with a focussed mind and try to achieve it with hard work and dedication.
Recalling his student days in the college and as hosteller, he said the teachers and his peers played a major role in shaping up his character and career.
He narrated how he had overcome the fear of speaking in English, having come from a rural and vernacular background.
“To shine in life, a good grip over English language is essential. Hold over the language, frequency, and vocabulary defines and enriches your personality,” pointed out Mr. Prasada Rao.
He said that a majority of the students fail in communicating in English due to the fear factor. He advised the students to overcome the challenge of fear factor through hard work and perseverance.
He narrated how he had today become a master of English words and had written a book ‘Word power to mind power’.
He also said that domain knowledge would not be sufficient for a successful career in life. “One has to pick up other traits such as general awareness, teamwork, dealing with people from diverse backgrounds, and communication skills,” he said.
Earlier, principal of the college G.A.P. Kishore recalled how the hostel and the college were started six decades ago and appreciated the role of the people, especially the main donor Gogineni Venkata Subbaiah Naidu, who were instrumental behind the project.
Chairman of G and C Consortium and alumnus of the college A.V.R. Chowdary, Rector of the college D. Ravi Sekhar, Correspondent S. Raju, Hostel Director N.B. Babu, and SJ Provincial Pothi Anthony spoke. The members of Alumni Association of the college, former teachers, and faculty members were present. The students and hostel inmates staged a cultural show to enliven the celebration.
