District gears up to conduct panchayat polls

Krishna District administration is gearing up to conduct the three-phased elections for 969 panchyats. Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission on Wednesday issued a notification to conduct panchayat elections in three phases on July 23, 27 and 31.

‘All necessary arrangements have been made to conduct the elections,’ said Krishna district Collector Buddha Prakash M. Jyothi.

According to the authorities, the first phase of the elections will kick-start in panchayats in Nuzvidu Revenue Division on July 23. The elections in Vijayawada Revenue Division will be conducted on July 27 and in Machilipatnam and Gudiwada Divisions on July 31.

‘In all 5,344 ballot boxes were made available for the elections. The SEC has given its nod to get required ballot boxes from Hyderabad Municipal Corporation,’ Mr. Buddha Prakash told the newsmen.

Krishna Superintendent of Police J. Prabhakara Rao said that identified history sheeters were counselled as a part of security measures.

The contestants are allowed to submit their nomination on July 9 between 10.30 a.m. and 5 p.m.
