A.P. High Court judge B. Chandra Kumar expressed anguish at women being treated and depicted as objects of luxury even in these modern times. These incidents were continuing even as stringent action was being taken against the accused and death penalty imposed in rarest of rare cases. Atrocities on women were taking place with unfailing regularity because of the general decline in values while the courts tried their best to punish the guilty by following due procedures, he said.
Guest lecture
Justice Chandra Kumar also delivered a guest lecture to the students of K.L. University on the topic “Role of youth in national development.” Vice-Chancellor R. Sreehari Rao spoke.
“By coming together for protecting themselves from offenders and becoming mentally and physically strong, women and girls can ward off attacks taking place not only at street corners but also in full public glare,” Justice Chandra Kumar observed during an interaction with students of Triveni Degree College for Women at Patamata here on Friday. He said that girls should think how to overcome hurdles in life, set high targets and achieve them undeterred by the odds stacked against them. They should aspire to become good professionals and could look at many role models for that. There were many women, some of them illiterate, who changed the course of world history. Today’s women and girls are far better placed as far as education was concerned, he opined.
