Artistes on Sunday requested the government to initiate measures for developing Vijayawada into a hub for cultural activities and ensure proper facilities to their fraternity. Such a measure will come as a great relief to many artistes who have been facing hardships due to non-availability of amenities in the city auditoriums.

With Vijayawada becoming the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, the administration should leave no stone unturned in making the city a cultural hub. Pouring out their woes at a meeting organised by Tax Payers’ Association at Vijayawada Book Festival Society Hall here, artistes said they were facing problems owing to lack of rooms for doing rehearsals . “We too need a spacious auditorium as the city is all set to become the Capital for A.P,” an artiste felt.

Another artiste C. Venkateswara Rao said employees at the existing auditoriums were causing problems to them while staging shows.

All India Radio retired programme officer Panduranga Rao said the Cultural Department should be shifted from Hyderabad to Vijayawada.
