Deputy Speaker of New Jersey State to visit city

Upendra J.Chivukula, the Deputy Speaker of New Jersey Legislative Assembly, will be felicitated by the Krishna District Writers' Association when he comes to the city on Friday.

Mr Upendra was elected to the General Assembly of New Jersey State in 2002 and he continues to be a member even today. He became the Deputy Speaker in 2007 and still holds the post. Mr Upendra is the first Asian American to be elected to the New Jersey Assembly and the fourth Indian American to be elected to the State Office. Earlier he was elected the Mayor of Franklin Township.

Mr Upendra who belongs to Nellore did his Engineering at the Guindy Engineering College, Chennai.

Mr Upendra who is arriving here from Chennai by Howrah Mail on Friday morning will offer prayers to Goddess Kanakadurga and go to Chevitikallu village in G.Konduru mandal to participate in the inaugural function of the Srivani Institute of Technology. He will return to Chennai by train.
