A 35-year-old man on the verge of death because of acute biliary pancreatitis was given a second lease of life by a team of doctors at the Vijaya Super Speciality Hospital here.
Addressing a press conference, surgical gastroenterologist Kongara Ravikanth said that the patient was brought with 90 per cent of his pancreas damaged. At the time of admission the kidneys and lungs of the patient had stopped functioning. The patient was put on the ventilator and when his condition stabilised a four-hour surgery was performed to remove the part of the pancreas that was damaged.
Dr. Ravikanth said that this kind of surgery was rare here. Hospital chief nephrologist G. Sarat Babu, gastroenterologist K. Madhu, critical care specialist Vijay, were present.
