Decks have been cleared for filling up vacancies in the Vijayawada division of the South Central Railway with the headquarters making arrangements for a recruitment drive.

Announcing this at the 55th Railway Week celebrations at the Railway Institute here on Thursday, Divisional Railway Manager of the Vijayawada division Vashishta Johri said that the recruitment process would begin with the filling up of gatemen vacancies and the existing roasters would be revised soon.

Expressing happiness over the winning of ‘efficiency shield' by the division for the second consecutive year, Mr. Johri attributed the success to the continuous efforts and team work put in by the officials and staff.

“This year, we are sharing the shield with Guntakal division. We hope we will get this shield without sharing it with any others in the coming years,” he said.

Performance

Referring to the performance of the division in the last financial year, Mr. Johri said that the overall earnings of the division were recorded as Rs. 1,500 crore, exceeded by 1.5 per cent of the targets given by the headquarters.

The total loading was 16.08 million tonnes, which was 50 per cent higher than the loading of the previous year.

Extra efforts

“Lot of extra efforts by the officials and staff are there behind this success. Besides appreciating the efforts of each and every individual, I am promising you that priority will be accorded to the staff welfare programmes,” he said, observing that there was no compromise with regard to safety. “Despite several constraints, we have achieved a lot. Let us continue the same spirit in the future too,” he said.

The division won total 11 shields of the General Manager's best performance branches including commercial and marketing (won by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager B. Vijaya Bhaskar), civil engineering (by Senior Divisional Engineer Vikram Gupta), operations (by Senior Divisional Operations Manager K. Sambasiva Rao) and Hindi (by Raja Bhasha Adhikari S. Chiranjeevi) and Mr. Johri lauded the efforts of the officials. Additional Divisional Railway Manager B. Jaya Raju, and others were present.
