She is only 12 years, but has firmly set her eyes on entering the Guinness Book of World Records with a marathon Kuchipudi dance performance.
Maddali Sai Chandrika, daughter of Sri Nataraja Samskrutika Kalapeetham founder M. Surya Prakash, danced for a total of four hours at the Rotary Red Cross Blood Bank on Friday in an attempt to set a new world record.
Though her parents informed the Guinness Book authorities in London in advance that she would be performing for three hours, the total performance lasted for a little more than four hours. After performing at a stretch for three hours and six minutes, the girl took a break and danced again for an hour and four minutes. In order to meet the requirements of the Guinness Book officials for evidence of the performance, her parents obtained the signatures of Mayor M.V. Ratna Bindu, MLA Malladi Vishnu, local corporator Y. Srinivasa Rao, Andhra Pradesh Grandhalaya Parishad Chairman Turlapaty Kutumba Rao, Kuchipudi dance teachers Vedantam Ramalinga Sastry and Pasumarthi Kesava Prasad.
These will be sent to London along with media reports. “The Guinness Book authorities usually take four to six weeks to take a decision,” the parents said. Animal Husbandry Minister K. Parthasarathy and the other dignitaries, who attended the performance, were all praise for her determination and dedication to the classical dance form .
Chandrika started dancing with flair and ease, as there was a lot of expectation among the audience about her creating the record. She completed her performance without showing any sign of fatigue.
