Scores of dalits, under the banner of Charmakarula Sankshema Sangham, staged a demonstration in front of the Prakasam Bhavan seeking house sites.
The agitators, led by sangham leader P. Arogya Rao, urged the district administration to arrange for loans without any collateral security.
Muslim Development Committee leader Sk. Bujji and Bahujana Kutami president N. Veeranjaneyulu joined the protest march on the arterial trunk road seeking “socio-economic justice” for over 200 cobbler families eking out a livelihood on the roadside.
The protestors later submitted a memorandum to district Collector Kantilal Dande in support of their demands.
