The Kulavivaksha Vyatireka Prachara Chaitanya Sangham has demanded the state government to earmark some of the flats constructed under Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana and Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) programme in the city.
The sangham organised a round table on the housing problem of dalits and tribals in the city on Friday. The meeting passed a resolution demanding the government to provide housing to the dalits and tribals living in the city. Though hundreds of houses were constructed under the JNNURM and Vambay, the dalits and tribals have not benefited much. The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) laid emphasis on providing housing to the people living on canal bunds.
The beneficiaries sold away the houses allotted to them and went back to the areas where from they were evicted. Neither the Corporation objective served, nor dalits benefited, said Sangham convener Parisapogu Rajesh.
The Corporation should make the list of beneficiaries public. The VMC should also initiate inquiry into the irregularities taken place in the allotment of houses, he said.
