The Cabinet on Thursday cleared the payment of the sixth instalment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to employees.
The payment would be made into the GPA accounts until August from Jan 2016 and from September 1 it would be credited into their salary accounts. It entails an additional burden of ₹100 crore per month.
Incidentally, the government is facing strong criticism from the employees with regard to the arrears and its proposal to introduce a new system to take action against non-performing employees.
The government has kept the DA arrears pending since January 2016, prior to which five instalments were paid.
Deputy Chief Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa said the Congress government did not do anything for employees whereas the present dispensation gave them 42% fitment.
The decision to release the arrears comes in the wake of an appeal by the Joint Action Committee of Employees, Teachers and Workers to consider their demands sympathetically.
