Murder of private security guard leads to tension in the area

Private security guard K. Sambasiva Rao (36) was killed by a cyclist leading to tension in Kankipadu area on the city outskirts on Saturday.

Police said Rao suffered critical injuries when D. Kiran attacked him at Punadipadu village on Friday evening. The victim died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The victim and his son, Pavan Kumar, were proceeding on a moped at Punadipadu Centre when the cycle of Kiran, who was reportedly drunk, hit the two-wheeler. An argument ensued following which Kiran rained blows on Rao and then hit him with a stone on his head causing severe injuries.

Dharna

“The accused beat my father indiscriminately when we just asked him why he was riding his bicycle on the wrong side. Though my father fell down on the road, the accused continued the attack. No passer-by came to our rescue,” said Pavan Kumar.

Tension prevailed at Kankipadu when the family members of the victim staged a dharna before the police station. Traffic was held up for some time due to the protest.

Kin of the victim raised slogans demanding that the government take stringent action against Kiran and pay suitable compensation to the bereaved family.

Police had a tough time controlling the protesters. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) K. Praveen rushed to the spot to monitor the situation.

The accused was taken into custody, police said.
