Cycling was the best way to keep oneself healthy and it will also help preserve environment, said Assistant Joint Collector N. Ramesh Kumar.

About 50 students participated in a bicycle rally conducted by the Active Bicyclers Association to celebrate the one time in a century occasion of the date “12-12-12” at Currency Nagar. Speaking on the occasion, he said: “By reducing use of motor vehicles one can save money and at the same time other benefits come as a bonus.”

Everyone should give some rest to their motor vehicles once a week at least and switch over to cycling their way to destinations, he said. District Youth Welfare Officer Velaga Joshi advised youth in the city to concentrate on health aspects.

Currency Nagar Association president Remala Sesha Chalapathi Rao, Ravindra Bharathi Public School principal G.V.S. Raja Rao, and Active Bicyclers Association secretary V. Satyanarayana were among those who took part in the cycle rally.

Meanwhile, BBM students of Nalanda Degree College, on the other hand, celebrated the special day with the residents of the Amma Vayovrudha Seva Sadanam at Kesarapalli. The students made the old people at the home to cut a cake and conducted various cultural programmes and competitions. In the present ‘nuclear family’ system, people were not paying attention to relations, college principal M. Anuradha said. The programme was organised to inculcate these human values among students, she said.

A unique programme, All is Well, was conducted at the Maris Stella College to mark the occasion. Principal Sister Japmalai said this was an occasion which omes only once in a lifetime. She wished that everybody will have goods days in the future beginning on this special day. Senior intermediate student Reshma’s imitation of various musical instruments was the highlight of these celebrations.
