Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar ordered that social audit should be conducted into the welfare schemes being implemented for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs) like it is done in the case of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MG-NREGS) to achieve the best outcomes.
Addressing a review meeting on the programs of the Social and the Tribal Welfare Departments at the Secretariat on Friday, Mr. Kumar said the social audit would keep a check on corruption and also help in recovering the public money from the corrupt officers. The benefits of the schemes could then be taken to the targeted sections.
Focus on education
The CS said focus should be laid on the education of SC youth, whose services could be utilised in the upkeep of the social welfare residential hostels. Steps should be taken to bring down the drop-out rate in social welfare residential schools and hostels, he added.
Mr. Kumar said the committees headed by district Collectors for foolproof implementation of the SC/ST Atrocities Prevention should meet regularly to take necessary action from time to time.
Principal Secretary (Social Welfare) S.S. Rawat and SC Corporation Managing Director G.S.R.K.R. Vijaya Kumar were amonmg those present.
