Drop in crime against women

Director General of Police (DGP) J.V. Ramudu said crime against women was on the decline in Andhra Pradesh.

In all, 12,617 cases were reported in 2014 compared to 13,527 cases last year. There has been a decline in cases relating to harassment of women, Dowry Prohibition Act, murders and kidnaps. The DGP said crime against women came down by 6.73 per cent, dowry harassment cases decreased by 13.15 per cent and kidnap cases had come down by 11.92 per cent this year.

However, there was a rise in cognisable offences. A total of 99,000 cases were reported in 2014 (up to November) against 95,000 in 2013. About 438 dacoities and robberies were reported this year compared to 399 last year. Economic offences increased by 11.58 per cent with 4,973 cases in the last eleven months as against 4,457 cases during the previous year.
