To create awareness among the police personnel and officials of Juvenile Justice Act, 2000, a three-day workshop began in the city on Wednesday.
Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Krishna district, in association with the Forum for Child Rights (FCR), Navajeevan Bala Bhavan and Care and Share Charitable Trust, is conducting the workshop at TANA rescue shelter at Hanumanpet.
Objective
The programme is aimed at sensitising about 200 constables and 50 officials of the rank of inspectors and sub-inspectors of police working in the city police commissionerate on child rights convention and the Juvenile Justice Act.
Chairman of the CWC's Krishna district unit Thomas Koshy said that the entire police department must have knowledge of child rights and the need to protect them.
“There are many service organisations working for the welfare of children in the city. Besides providing shelter to street children, these centres are providing them education and making continuing efforts to join them with their families,” he said.
‘Laudable effort'
Inspector of One-Town police station K. Venkat Reddy lauded the efforts of the CWC and other organisers in taking the initiative to conduct sensitisation programme for police personnel.
Expressing concern over practices like child labour, he said that the police were contributing their mite to save the children at risk.
Chairperson of the SKCV Children's Trust Bhakthi Manihara, senior assistant director of Care and Share Charitable Trust J.L.V. Prasad, members of the CWC M.C. Das and V. Rajamani and others were present.
The programme would be conducted for 100 constables each on Thursday and Friday at the same venue.
