Taking a serious view of the inordinate delay in grounding of the the Inner Ring Road (IRR) project, Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (AP CRDA) has directed the contractors to submit a schedule of the pending works in two days.
At a review meeting on Thursday, CRDA Commissioner N. Srikanth said that the project, especially the flyover works in Ramavarappadu was caught in delay. He discussed about the under-construction flyover, which collapsed near Gunadaala and said that the ongoing works would be monitored on fortnightly basis.
Completion of the IRR would ease the traffic snarls in the city as vehicles proceeding towards Visakhapatnam and Kolkata from Hyderabad could be diverted at at Gollapudi ‘Y’ junction through the IRR, avoiding their entry into the city, he said, adding that it also ease the congestion on the stretches such as Kummaripalem, Krishnalanka and Benz Circle, where traffic moves at a snail’s pace during peak hours.
The RSV Constructions Private Limited, which has bagged the contract of the flyover at Gunadala, said the work was not uniform when compared to Nunna side. The spans of the flyover near Gunadala varied in size. Nine different types of spans, girders would have to be constructed. It has impacted the works, the firm representatives said.
The contractors cited land acquisition, encroachments, canals, narrow roads, and little access to construction site as the cause of the delay, promosing that works would be completed by December end.
But, officials asked them to submit the work schedule. Based on it, deadline for the works would be set, Mr. said, adding that all the encroachments on the project side would be removed.
