The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is drawing plans to construct residential and office complexes in the Capital Region. The CPWD has asked the AP Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) to allot 50 to 60 acre for it, according to CPWD Additional Director General (Southern Region-I) P.P. Srinivasan.

The CPWD would construct 10 lakh square feet area for General Pool of Office Accommodation (GPOA).

The department has also plans to construct 16,000 residential houses for the Central government employees. Approximately, it would cost Rs. 400 crore, he said.

By and large it was estimated that 16,000 quarters would be required.

Different types of accommodation would be provided for the Central government employees. The cost of staff quarters would have to be estimated based on types of accommodation required, he said.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Srinivasan said that the CPWD had created a Chief Engineer post for Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation. The department was envisaging bigger role in the State as many mega construction projects would come up.

Lot of potential was there to prove the mettle and efficiency of the department, he said.

Mr. Srinivasan said that the department was expecting to complete the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) building by October 2016.

There were also proposals to construct holiday homes for the Central government employees at Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh, and at Hyderabad and at Yadagirigutta in Telangana, he added.
