The Communist Party of India-Marxist city unit has demanded an inquiry into the implementation of projects taken up under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission programme.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, CPI (M) city secretary Ch. Babu Rao said that Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has reprimanded the corporation on implementation of the JNNURM programme. Crores of rupees of public money was wasted due to faulty implementation. Though Rs. 1,422 crore was spent, the desired results were not achieved. The CAG studied only two projects. More skeletons would tumble out of the cupboard if the CAG studied all the projects, he said.

The government and Congress leaders owe an explanation on the misuse of the funds, he said, adding, “the CPI(M) has been cautioning the government ever since the programme was launched. The party would hold a massive agitation to expose the misdeeds of the Congress government.”

Meanwhile AIDWA city secretary K. Sridevi said that the people’s organisations would launch padayatras in the city from Sunday onwards. The activists would submit memoranda to the officials from June 26 to 28 on public issues. On June 29, a dharna would be organised in front of the VMC office, she said.
