The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) city unit staged a dharna demanding that the Government constitute an engineering experts committee to inquire into the >collapse of flyover that was under construction.
The party activists led by city secretary Ch. Babu Rao, on Wednesday, squatted in the corridors of VGTMUDA office demanding stringent action against the contractor.
Raising slogans against the UDA officials, they wanted the Government to inquire into the corrupt deeds of the UDA officials.
They also demanded the Government to black list the contractor for not following the standards and quality parameters.
UDA secretary D.V. Ramana Reddy told the agitating CPI (M) activists that the UDA vice chairman went to Hyderabad and chairman did not turn up to the office.
Responding to it, Mr. Babu Rao insisted that the preliminary enquiry report should be made public.
UDA Chairman Vanukuri Srinivas Reddy spoke to the CPI (M) leader over phone and assured him that necessary action would be taken.
Pointing out that the FIR was filed against the contractor, Mr. Babu Rao alleged that the UDA officials had little concern for the lives of public.
