Communist Party of India-Marxist district unit has released a poster on nation-wide trade unions strike scheduled on February 20 and 21. On Saturday, CPI(M) district secretary R. Raghu said that the present government policies were “anti-people” and benefiting corporate entities and hurting the common man. In protest against the policies, national trade unions had jointly called the two-day all India general-strike.
Liberalisation
The liberalisaiton policies pursued by the UPA-II and NDA had pushed the country’s economy into doldrums. The prices of essential commodities skyrocketed and inflation touched 10 per cent in the recent past.
The government, instead of curbing the inflation and controlling the prices, was instigating the regional sentiments, he said.
The trade unions were vehemently opposing the financial sector reforms.
The five-point demand jointly formulated by trade unions sought urgent measures to curb prices, employment generation, enforcement of labour laws, social security cover for organised and unorganised workers and stoppages of divestment in state-run PSUs.
CPI(M) district secretariat members Y. Kesava Rao, Rythu Sangham district secretary Choutapalli Ravi were also present.
