The Communist Party of India (Marxist) city unit has staged a dharna near Ansari park on Besant Road here opposing the government’s move to impose another burden of Rs. 1,059 crore towards fuel surcharge adjustment.

CPI(M) city secretary Ch. Babu Rao on Tuesday said the government was all set to levy another burden on the people. The power tariff hike and fuel surcharge adjustment which were already levied were hitting hard the common man.

The new proposal would further cripple the commoner. The people were afraid of looking at the bills. The surcharges were 100 to 500 per cent more than actual bill. The government already imposed a burden of Rs. 33,000 crore, he said.

CPI(M) city secretariat members M. Venkateswara Rao, city committee members P. Sambi Reddy, B. Nageswara Rao, former corporator K. Sridevi and others were present.
