‘Government neglecting the poor'
Member of Legislative Council K.S. Lakshman Rao has asked the government to provide pattas to all the poor who have been residing on hilly areas for the past few decades.
The government failed in providing pattas to them despite several representations, he said while kicking off the CPI(M) Chiatanya Yatra in the divisions 18,19,20, and 21 in the city on Wednesday.
There was no rhyme and reason behind non-issuance of pattas to them though they were living there for more than three decades, he said. The government agencies like Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) were grossly neglecting them, he opined.
The drinking water was supplied at strike of midnight, he said, adding, “I would bring their plight to the notice of Municipal Administration Minister Mahidhar Reddy and district Collector S.A.M. Rizvi.”
The people complained that sanitation was very poor in their areas. The drinking water was supplied at odd hours. Moreso, the water supplied by the VMC was being contaminated as the pipelines were damaged long back. The bankers were unwilling to sanction loans to repair the houses as there were no pattas. The roads were in complete bad condition. The people expected that their problems would be solved after Rachhabanda programme. But, to their dismay there was hardly any progress, they said.
CPI(M) city secretary R. Raghu, State committee member Ch. Babu Rao, CITU city general secretary Muzzafar Ahmed, and others were present.
