The city unit of the CPI (M) on Monday came down heavily on the ruling Congress alleging that it made a mockery of budgeting.
CPI (M) floor leader in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) general body Ch. Babu Rao pointed out that the Congress presented budgets with a total of outlay of Rs. 5,360 crore during the last five years.
Of this, only Rs. 1,225 crore was actually spent.
The budget estimates for capital works was Rs. 4,521 crore during the last five years, while a mere Rs.597.17 crore was spent.
On an average only 13.26 per cent was spent on developmental activities, including works taken up under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
