The city unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Monday took exception to the remarks made allegedly against the party by Congress MLA Malladi Vishnu over the issue of dumping of garbage at Sriram Energy plant in Ajit Singh Nagar.
“Such baseless statements are nothing but diversionary tactics of the Congress,” said CPI (M) city secretary R. Raghu at a press conference.
He said indiscriminate dumping of garbage at the plant had been causing problems to residents of almost six divisions within VMC limits. The energy plant had been reduced to a dumping yard thanks to gross negligence of the Corporation authorities. Several agitations levelled by CPI (M) on this count had failed to yield desired result. If the dumping was not stopped by Nov. 1, the party would launch anagitation in collaboration with other like-minded political parties and other organisations to highlight the plight of the locals, Mr. Raghu cautioned. Stating that the residents of Ajit Singh Nagar had been intercepting, on their own, the dumper places and other vehicles that were being used for transporting garbage, Mr. Raghu alleged that the Congress leader was trying to politicise the issue by shifting the blame on CPI(M). He said the Corporation authorities who had been collecting fine from residents who dumped garbage in the open, had now reduced Ajit Singh Nagar to an open dumping yard.
