The Communist Party of India-Marxist CPI (M) has alleged that the State government was adopting double standards and not implementing its promises in letter and spirit.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, CPI (M) city secretary Ch. Babu Rao said that the government had promised that the hike would not impact the consumers who consume less than 200 units, and the power tariff would be nominal. But, in reality the bills were sending shivers down the spine of electricity consumers.

The government seems to have instructed the authorities to do find out ways and means to augment the revenues.

The authorities were inordinately delaying the meter reading. The number of units consumed would increase beyond stipulated units if meter reading was not taken before the schedule. It changes the slab, and the consumers were forced to pay hefty bills, he explained.

The government, never in the history, imposed a burden of Rs. 32,000 crore on the people.

Miserable condition

The government sole objective was to make a dent in the pockets of people. The power cuts on one-hand, and power tariff hike on another made the lives miserable, he added.

Meanwhile, the CPI(M) submitted a memorandum to Aadhar Observation Committee director Rami Reddy urging him to take necessary steps to issue the cards to all the applicants.

Many of the applicants have not received the cards though they have taken the photographs at the centres. A permanent centre was necessary for those who could not apply for the cards for various reasons, including ill health. The centres would also help in rectifying the mistakes in the cards issues, he felt.
