Communist Party of India-Marxist activists staged a dharna in front of offices of gas agencies in the city opposing linking of supply of subsidised cylinders with Cash Transfer Scheme and Aadhar cards.

They carried cylinder replicas on their heads, and raised slogans against the government on Tuesday. They stalled the day-to-day activities at the agencies as part of the bandh. They also organised rasta roko at Sumana gas agencies located on BRP Road in One Town and burnt effigy of gas prices. Srikara, Hema, Ramyakrishna, Bhavani Gas agencies were forced to down their shutters.

The CPI (M) activists stalled the activities of Ahmed, Maruti, Royal Indane, Vijaya Enterprises, Trinetra agencies in Vijyawada (Central) constituency. They also obstructed the business of Madhavi, Lalita, Kalpana, Captian Vijaya Prasad, Raja, Vasantha, Jhansi Rani, Saibharat gas agencies in Vijayawada (East) constituency.

Addressing a gathering in front of Naveena Gas Agencies at Gandhi Nagar, CPI (M) city secretary Ch. Babu Rao said that governments fell due to rise in onion prices. This time, the LPG prices would bring down the Congress Government. The Congress,

TDP and YSR Congress party were concerned about the prime ministerial candidates rather than the problems of commoner, he felt.

The common man was forced to shell out Rs.1,350 per cylinder, which is Rs.900 more if their gas connection has no linkage with Aadhar card or bank account.

The Government has failed to issue the Aadhar cards to everyone in the city. Many people did not receive the cards though they had applied long back.
