The Communist Party of India (CPI) staged a dharna in front of Old Government General Hospital here on Monday demanding the authorities to take necessary steps to reopen the Jeevandhara pharmacy that was closed down.
Party city secretary Donepudi Sankar, addressing the gathering, said that the doctors were prostrating before corporate companies for commissions.
They have to prescribe the generic medicines, they were prescribing the costliest medicines with an eye on commissions, and the doctors were literally looting the people, he alleged.
The generic medicines were available at a price 90 per cent less than reference medicines.
Despite so many benefits, the Government turned a blind eye to the developments.
Neither the government was taking any measures to procure the medicines nor reopening the Jeevandhara generic medicines pharmacy, he said.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s assurances in this regard went in vain, he recalled. Former MLA Sk. Nasar Vali, AITUC city general secretary T.V. Ramana Murthy and others spoke.
