Contract lecturers of government colleges in Prakasam district under the aegis of the CPI(M)-led Centre for Indian Trade Unions(CITU) on Tuesday took out a rally in support of their demands including regularisation of their jobs and payment of salaries pending for four months.

Leading the rally, Contract Lecturers Association District president Sk. Khadar Vali and CITU district Secretary P Venkat Rao urged the government to hike the salaries of lecturers working in degree colleges on contract basis to Rs. 20,000 and that of junior college lecturers on contract basis to Rs.18,000.

The lecturers staged a dharna before the office of the Regional Inspecting Officer (RIO) and later submitted a memorandum to Prakasam district Collector Kantilal Dande urging the government to consider their demands, including grant of maternity leave to women lecturers taken on contract basis.
