The TDP has alleged that Congress leaders who posed as “delta saviours” betrayed the people of Krishna delta for the sake of Cabinet posts during Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s tenure.
Addressing a press conference in Vijayawada on Sunday, Mylavaram MLA and TDP district president Devineni Umamaheswara Rao alleged that the hunger strike by former Minister Mandali Buddha Prasad was akin to crocodile shedding tears. Stating that the former Minister wrote a letter to him for commenting against the hunger strike, the TDP leader said.
“If he is really sincere, he should write a letter to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy,” he opined.
The Congress leaders had no answer when the TDP was waging a relentless battle on behalf of delta farmers. “Now, Mr. Buddha Prasad has suspended the hunger strike saying that the Chief Minister has assured him that water would be released to the delta from the Polavaram project and to Rayalaseema from the Srisailam project,” he said.
People voted the Congress to power twice, but Ms. Sonia Gandhi created a rift between the Telangana and Andhra regions for her vested interests. “What happened to the report of the Sri Krishna Committee? Why is the UPA government silent after the December 9 statement?” he asked, adding, “People would like to know the answers to these questions from Mr. Buddha Prasad.”
Party urban unit president Vallabhaneni Vamsi, State general secretary Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, State executive secretary K. Nagul Meera, State secretary Gottipati Ramakrishna, and Vijayawada (West) in charge Buddha Venkanna were present.
