‘Density studies showed that the flow of traffic was heavier at Benz Centre’
Why is the Telugu Desam Party not concerned about the delay in the building of the flyover at Benz Centre? Is the million dollar question being raised by former deputy Mayor Samanthapudi Narasaraju.
Addressing a press conference on Friday Mr Narasaraju and other Congress leaders asked why the TDP leaders who staged a dharna for a flyover at the foot of Indrakeeladri Hill were not talking about the need for a flyover at Benz Centre.
Mr Narasaraju said traffic density studies clearly showed that the flow of traffic was heavier at Benz Centre then at the foot of Indrakeeladri Hill. The TDP leaders were not agitating about it because TDP MP and infrastructure firm owner Nama Nageswara Rao was delaying construction of the flyover. The Congress leader said Mr Rao’s company was awarded the contract to construct the flyover over two years ago, but there has been absolutely no progress.
The TDP Vijayawada Parliamentary incharge Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) was making statements against Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal without any understanding, Mr Narasaraju said.
Without naming Nani, Mr Narasaraju said, “people who have absolutely no idea about the development of the city should keep quiet. If they want to continue in politics they should learn about the city or they should go back to operating buses,” he said.
He said the allegations that the construction of a flyover at the foot of the hill was being blocked because high tension wires from Lanco Thermal Power Plant were running at the point. The TDP leadership should take the trouble to get their facts right because the power lines from Lanco plant go to the central power grid at Nunna.
Party leaders turned up in strength for the press conference as if to show that they were all behind Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal. City Congress president Adapa Nagendram gave a brief history about the efforts made by elected representatives of the Congress party to deal with the bottleneck at the foot of the hill. City committee working president Meesala Rajeswara Rao said there was absolutely no development in the city during the nine-year TDP rule.
PCC general secretary Muttamsetti Ratnabindu, Mahila Congress president Vasireddi Anuradha and others were present.
