Congress heavyweights to lead poll campaign in Prathipadu

Mandal-level party coordinators named

Two senior Ministers and two MPs will lead the Congress campaign in the by-poll to be held for Prathipadu (SC) Assembly constituency as party is making a full pitched attempt to regain lost ground in the constituency.

Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana Rao who is coordinating the poll campaign announced at the end of coordination committee meeting held at District Congress Office on Sunday that senior leaders have been entrusted responsibilities of leading the poll campaign and ensure victory for the candidates.

Minister for Agriculture Kanna Lakshminarayana is the incharge for Guntur Rural mandal, which has a high number of voters belonging to Telaga and Vaddera communities. Former MLA, Guntur West, Tadisetty Venkata Rao is also roped in a bid to muster the support of BC voters.

The Minister has already began electioneering and is meeting second rung leaders in villages in Guntur Rural Mandal in a bid to wrest support for party's candidate TJR Sudhakar Babu.

Member of Parliament Rayapati Sambasiva Rao is the incharge for Vatticherukuu mandal along with ex-MLA Lingamsetty Eswara Rao, while Mopidevi and Guntur East MLA, would lead the campaign at Pedanandipadu and Prathipadu respectively. Congress MLC Rayapati Srinivas is the incharge at Kakumanu mandal.

Rajya Sabha MP J.D Seelum is the coordinator of the campaign committee which has Korivi Vinay Kumar and Seelum Ravi as members.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Venkata Ramana Rao said that the party is switching into a full pitched poll campaign much ahead of the by poll, which would set up chances of a victory.

The Ministers would start touring the mandals from Monday and would meet second and third rung leaders of the party, who have been lying low for the last two years, Mr. Venkata Ramana Rao added.
